The first Metro train to be refurbished by Wabtec in Doncaster has arrived back in Newcastle. It is expected to enter service in the next month or so, and features both a new external livery and interior. The rest of the fleet (90 2-car units in all) will be refurbished over the next four years, with the work consisting of a complete strip down of the train, repairing corroded sections of the body, and a complete overhaul of the interior, including the driver’s cab.

The new livery can be seen below. Personally I think the grey looks very smart, but the black paint on the front doesn’t work
