Very sad to read that The Bay Hotel in Cullercoats is to be demolished
to make way for apartments. Evidently the owners of The Bay cannot
afford to carry out renovations required under recent Government
So yet another well known building is set to disappear. The Bay Hotel
is a typical Victorian Hotel and was formerly The Ship Inn. Taken
over as a hotel in 1870 and renamed The Hudleston Arms and Hotel, it
changed its name to the Bay Hotel in 1894.
once a great bar for pool and music….it has also suffered a lack of
investment over the past 5 years or so….this – along with the High
Point and the Avenue (also the Port ‘O Call where I used to work)
means a distinct lack of pubs for old codgers like me to drink
in….where can we get a game of pool these days?
