Club set up to help dementia sufferers

A new club supporting people living with dementia has been launched in Whitley Bay after funding for another venture ran out.
Earsdon Grange care home in Wellfield has started the new club which features free activities, indoor sports games for those with the condition and their carers.
Held fortnightly the games club is being managed by activities co ordinators Krissy Grant and Lynsey Ralph at the residential care home, which also provides care for older people living with dementia.
The idea to start the club came when funding for a similar North Tyneside based Alzheimers Society games club ran out, which several of the residents of Earsdon Grange attended.
Staff at the home wanted to ensure that residents and local people living with dementia at home could still continue to access a service which promotes socialisation and exercising through the enjoyable medium of games and sports.
sessions are free to attend and the care home in Thorntree Drive West Monkseaton. The Mayor Norna Redfern was the homes special guest at the opening.
