At Arriva UK Bus, we constantly strive to reduce the environmental effects of public transport and firmly believe that we have a wider role in reducing the overall impact that transport can have on the environment.
By offering quality services, we can encourage more people out of their cars and help to reduce road congestion. Fewer cars on the roads mean less emissions, more efficient fuel usage and public transport becomes more reliable reinforcing it as an attractive journey choice.
We constantly look to minimise our greenhouse gas emissions through fuel efficiency measures, alternative fuels, fleet improvements, exploring new technology and working with manufacturers to contribute towards the next generation of vehicles. For example, Arriva UK Bus has invested some £22.2 million in the implementation of a number of gas and hybrid vehicles across the UK, with an additional £4.5 million funding provided by the Department for Transport’s Green Bus Fund.
77 hybrid electric double deck vehicles and 21 carbon-neutral biogas-fuelled single decks, entered service during 2013 alone. They offer greater comfort and greener bus travel for passengers in the North East, North West, Yorkshire and Kent.
